Thankyou for looking that up for me Glitterbaby. I am very grateful. I am sorry I seem to have started a run of people asking . That wasn't my intention.

Watermen/lightermen were in the same families for centuries, intermarrying, training each others kids and so on. If you have one waterman/lighterman, chances are you have dozens or possibly hundreds (as in my case!) of them.

In which case, it is well worth you going to dockland ancestors and buying the bindings cds and the others on there. James Legon has also written a book on tracing watermen/lightermen which you can buy on the site.

If you have people baptised in dock area churches, there is a list of churches and dates covered and I usually enter just a surname to bring up everyone baptised in a particular search. Well worth it as you often get details down to the actual addresses.

They have a webiste where you can look up individual baptism records. It costs £2-£3 per go so if you have a lot of watermen/lightermen it would not be practical but for the odd one it's useful.

I think the CDs cost about £5-£6 each but again they're arranged by church/area so can work out expensive if you need a larger coverage.
