Can anyone tell me the best way to access census records in Illinois? I know my great uncle, David Waddell, emigrated there from Scotland around 1911. I also know he married his second wife there. That's all the info I have. Any help would be appreciated.

I can't access the census records but I know there are others here who can.
I found your David Waddell on the Ellis Island site. I see he left his wife behind, I hope she died before he married the second one?
He sailed from Liverpool aboard the Celtic, arriving 8 May 1911. He was 33, a mason. His wife Mrs. Waddell of 52 Nithsdale? St., Glasgow. He said he was going to Massachusetts.

Thanks for that. I knew my g. uncle left his wife in Scotland in 1911. I was told they had separated but I don't know if/when they were divorced. Still working on that. Divorce would have been regarded as scandalous in those days. Didn't know he was heading for Massachusetts. All I have are a few photographs he sent home which were taken at Gages Lake.

I'll get there in the end.

All I know about my g. uncle's second wife is that her chistian name was Bessie (Elizabeth). No idea as to her surname. I was told she American.
