Finding RAF details

This is a long shot but someone might have an idea.
I had an uncle, Alan Chicken, whom I was told as a child was in the RAF. He died in 1975 and since then his widow didn't keep in touch with any of the family. I don't think he had any children but don't know for certain. His birth was registered in Q4 1920 but I believe it was actually in September. I've found his christening (October) and marriage records in the parish records for the family home town, Murton Co Durham. I've found his death in Ploughley, Oxfordshire in BMD records. Does any one know any way of finding out anything about his service record with such scant information about him?
None of his brothers are alive to ask.
In hope,
Maureen

All the information you require can be found here.

http://www.veteransagency.org.uk/

For personnel serving after 1921 you will need proof of death and consent of next of kin, there is a chrge of £30 or £35.

Thanks for that information Jennifer and Mike. I have no idea if his widow is still alive nor if he has any children so no next of kin. I guess I've hit a high fence if not a brick wall. Maybe one day something will turn up.
