HappyHilary Report 6 May 2008 10:44

Think I've found them in 1891 mistrancribed as GOWER. It looks like Gower on the page, but could also look like GOVIER.

Head Sarah E Gower 34 Widow Washer born Landerworth, London (also looks like Lauderworth)
Dua Florence Gower 10 born Kensington
DAU EMILY GOWER 8 born Kensington
Friend Eliza Taylor 31 Single Housemaid
Address:- 80 Bramley Rd, Kensington
Ref:- RG12/23 Page 7

On FreeBMD there isn't a corresponding birth for Emily, but you may want to look at the complete index. Your Auntie was right about her year of birth.

Also the above 1891 census entry fits with the birth of Sarah Ellen Eary in 1856 and Peter dying in 1888 and the occupation of Washer in 1891 and Laundress in 1901.

Hope this helps.
Best Wishes, Hilary

Ivy

The only Sarah Eary marrying in Middlesex in the 1870s is this one:

Marriages Dec 1878
Eary Sarah Marylebone 1a 992
Jenkins John Marylebone 1a 992
Jenkins Maria Marylebone 1a 992
Killick George Marylebone 1a 992

Could she be Sarah Ellen, recorded as Ellen in 1881 with Peter Govier? I cannot find a Peter Gov* marriage in the 1870s.

It does seem unlikely, given Rose was born about 1878/1879.

[Ed: just seen Julie's post back on page 2:

Yes I will do that now ...Thanks so much ..You both really dont know how excited I am about prehaps sorting this ...

Thanks for your time

Nicola

Nicola Report 20 Apr 2008 22:05

The fact that you can find none of them on the 1891 suggests that there is a transcription error. I've had loads of those and they create havoc. GR is quite good at suggetsing alternative names if you look at your front page and type in rose's details it will give you somne clues and then its just a process of elinination!

Good luck

I've checked the image for you - usually nothing there but they recorded whether people were blind, deaf and dumb, lunatic or imbecile!

She wasn't listed as any of those!

Yes Nicola Thats the family ...and its the only census they show up on till 1901 .....
Yes we did think about that ..she may be a step child but then in 1901 Thomas showed up ..hes 25! she says she is 20 on her marriage cert which I have
I then thought .."I must get her birth certificate and thats where it stopped
