Just a short sorry to Reggie, as this has spoiled his thread a bit :o((

However I promise to mop up all the remains of the shared laughter left on this thread :o))

Thanks again Reggie, your info is welcomed by the majority :o))

I think the advise is to ,read ,read and read, the first steps and guides , into discovering your family history,,,,,,,,,,there are many books/ sites which will guide you where ,what and how&,pitfalls,,,,subscribe to one of the family research magazines that are published monthy...go join your local family history group even if its not your ancestors area,,here you will be advised your first steps,,,,then use this site when you have a little more insight,

WDYTYA,,,,,,needs ignoring,,,this is all done pre -search by professional researchers,,,,,who have many years experience,,,,

Reggie , I agree 100 per cent but having come across a lady on here who did put up a request on tips , the following should be taken into account ..
This lady was a pensioner , before she decided to ask the question on here she had spent over £40.00 on credits trying to "find the information herself".Money she could ill afford .
She did not subscribe to ancestry , so I found the information for her. her £40.00 worth of credits she spent took me approx 20 mins to find on Ancestry.. another 20 mins answered her question .She is now a member of Ancestry ...

I would just like to add, that Reg has helped me many, times with things I been STUCK with, and I have taken the advice to go to I.G.I, familysearch and freebmd, if it wasn't for Reg I wouldn't have known they existed.

SO REG THANKYOU

Regards

Oh Kim, that is so sad. I hope the lady in question is faring well in her research.

I don't think Reggie is saying waste money or struggle unnecessarily. After all that's what this board is for to help. These are just a few pointers in the right direction,

Further sound advise

Don't post a thread & then disappear for 2 days, you may find the answer has been deleted by then!

(yes it was a very good laugh, I could hardly type at the time)
