.......................ask yourself....
'Can I find any info?'
Have I checked the IGI for pre-1837 baptisms, marriages etc?
Have I looked on freebmd for bmd's betweeen 1837 and approx 1920?
Have I looked on the free 1881 census?

If you have done whichever of the above is relevant, and are still stuck...........ask away.

But it's more rewarding to find things for yourself, and that is, after all, what it's about.............

For those not aware of the above, the sites are as follows:-

IGI - http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp

FreeBMD - http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

1881 census - http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp

Reg spend many hours every day helping people on these boards. He is NOT criticising anyone just trying to get people to help themselves & to discover that finding things out is rewarding.

Reg ISN'T criticising, he/she is trying to HELP. (Personally I always think of Reg as a he).

I would think the Reg quite rightly thinks that everyone knows how to use Google plus the stickie at the top of this board should give everyone a clue!

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 18 Apr 2008 18:46

Most people have heard of Google. All anyone has to do is put IGI into a Google search and the web adress will pop up.

hi reg
thanks for your advise, i know it would be more rewarding to find things out for yourself, but if like me you are new to all this family reseach stuff its all very confusing and some like me may not know where to start or where to look for things

It is not criticism, and much help is freely given

If a question is asked by a helper such as "have you looked on IGI?" and the poster doesn't know what that means, they only have to come back and say so and help will be given to point them in the right direction for the site address.

I agree.....so much more rewarding to find info yourself if you possibly can.

I didn't see this as criticising, just some good tips :-)

If people feel that more info is needed to help even more, there is nothing stopping people providing this information themselves if need be :-)
