When you find the marriage reference on freebmd or the full index you then buy the certificate using that reference and info from GROonline for £7

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

That will give you the couples names, hopefully their ages, their occupations, where they were resident, their fathers names and occupations and the witnesses names. The fathers info should then help you move backwards through the census info.

hi Emma,

If you order the marriage certificate it will give fathers names and any witnesses. which should help you go further back.

Hi, not sure if am putting this note in the right place but am completely stuck. Just got on a role after being stuck in an information rut but stuck on what to do next. Once i have found records for example marriage records, it only gives the name of the 2 getting married, was hoping they gave more as have hit a brick wall on finding information on that side of the family. Unfortunately there is not any family to ask for guidance. Please Help!!
