Marriage Cert - Parish Records

Wonder if anyone could help me. I have the marriage of Samuel Criddle b 1861 Fitzhead and Amy Goss Hawkings b 1867 Tiverton on July 4th 1889, St Peter's Church, Tiverton, Devon. Witnesses are shown as Tom Northam Pratt and Edith Hawkins. I have tried to search for Tom Northam Pratt but can't find him on any census. Does anyone know if parish records would show the relationship between the witness and the bride/groom?

Thanks

Shirley

Last time I looked at Parish Records for marriages about 2 out of every 3 had the same witnesses - who were possibly some sort of church warden

Thanks for that Glitter Baby, sure I cant see sometimes for looking!!!!

It's funny, was looking through my certificates today and putting them on bmdshare.com and realised there were things written on them that I hadn't really taken any notice of - so excited to get the certificate that obviously didn't properly read it!

Also found that as I am still relatively new to this (my excuse anyway for being useless!!) when I look back at my findings, I realise that I have just gone for that person because of their name and when I look a little closer it isn't them because of their age etc!!

Could be doing this for a very long time!!

Thanks again

Yes, Shirley, so easy to miss things that are under your nose.
My 3rd cousin sent a photocopy of the flyleaf from a family bible which had been given to her gt grandfather. When she asked if I knew her gt gfs date of birth all I could tell her was March 1851, as he was 1 month old on the census. Later when I happened to look at the flyleaf again, there it was, 1st March 1851. It also had the names of his parents, confirmed my suspicion of the maiden name of the mother, but even more exciting their dates of birth. I obviously had not read it before, as the father had the same birthday as my youngest sister.
Apparently my 3rd cousin hadnt read the page either. I now know that it is wise to take time to read, learn and inwardly digest all the info on certs etc.
Huia.
