Chris

If there is only a little nudge in the right direction for you, that more than makes the effort worthwhile.

best of luck, we all need it

THANYOU SUE AND DAVID for taking the time to look at this for me. I am sure my tart family originate from eaton constantine they are however a huge family and the same christian names are repeated again and again. I will have a look at IGI and also at later census for john siblings i might find a clue there.
I feel a bit more sure that i do have the right parents for my john! so Thanks again
best wishes Christine

Chris

Forgot to mention that a John Tart, son of Sylvanus was baptised at Leighton, which seems to be fairly near Eaton Constantine. This was recorded as 25 Nov 1809.

Looks like he is yours though.
The IGI has this

JOHN TART Pedigree
Male
Christening: 31 MAR 1805 Eaton Constantine, Shropshire, England

Parents:
Father: GEORGE TART Family
Mother: ESTER

That is from Batch P006541 and there are 11 baptisms of Tart plus variants on that batch.
I tried what ought to be the matching marriage batch M006541 for that parish but no Tarts. I then tried Tart marriages in Shropshire and very few turned up so it looks as if that is an area not fully covered by the IGI.

Hi Chris

Have no idea how complete the coverage is on Family Search but there are no more Eaton Constantine baptismal records for a John born anywhere near 1806.

From personal experience, where Parish records have been extracted by LDS researchers they are usually thorough.

If you are certain that John was born in Eaton, presumably from census returns, then my approach would be to assume there is a high probability you have the correct ancestor, but note the caveat that it is a probability and not a certainty.

The IGI batch film contains the following baptismal records for children of John Tart and Esther. The 2 earliest records spell the surname Tarte.

Anne: 2 Dec 1787
Thomas: 3 Jan 1790
William: 20 Jul 1794
George: 28 Mar 1802
John: 31 Mar 1805

If your birth year is inferred from census returns, a difference of 1 can be disregarded.

hope this is helpful

best wishes

David

Next step might be to look at the 1841 and 1851 censuses to see if your John has either of his parents living with him.

If it were me I'd do a search for any other people with that surname in the area and try to see if there are any other Johns of about the same age. The IGI is not complete so unfortunately you may need to look at the parish records.

Put him down as a probable but you'd need a bit more evidence to be sure.

Hi everyone, I have found that my GGGgrandfather was a John tart born 1806 in eaton constantine shropshire.Looking at the shropshire parish records on ancestry i have found a baptism of a john 1805 son of a george and esther tart. But how do i know that this is my John ?( ALTHOUGH the name esther does appear in later generations could that be a good enough reason to think it is the right one?)
Thankyou for your thoughts
