Chica .... If you go back to the community page, and click on "my threads" half way down on the left hand side, it will take you to all the threads you have added to today and in the past...... much quicker than searching through pages to find them..

Using IExplorer, when I click on Add to Favorites, it opens a little window so I can rename the link if I want - this window also has a button to create a new folder within favorites that I can save the new favorite in.

If, like Still, you paste stuff into a notepad, eventually you'll want to save this file, and the first time you do this it's the same as doing a "Save As" and you'll get the choice of naming the file, e.g., Census-dates.txt", etc, and again have the option then of creating a new folder to put this file in - it's a button with a folder with a red sunburst on the top right corner of the folder, so I create a folder called "genealogy" and then create another within it called "census", etc. (There's another button next to this create button which is a folder with an up arrow, so you can navigate around in the folders you've created - next time I saved a notepad file, it might be on how Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman would register their Oklahoma homestead, and I might have to move up from the census folder into the genealogy folder, then open my USA folder and save the new file OK-homestead.txt there.

Anyway, I find notepad files so useful, I've got a shortcut for opening them on my desktop. Find notepad (as Still describes above), but instead of double clicking to open one, right-click and select "create shortcut". Next time you follow Still's directions, there'll be a notepad in the midlle as she describes, and a "notepad (2)" at the bottom: highlight the later, right-click and cut, then right-click on your desktop and paste. Once it's on your desk top you can drag it around and rename it if you want.

In addition to Ctrl-C (copy) and Ctrl-V (paste), there's Ctrl-X (cut). If I'm copying from a web-page that I can't edit, then cut doesn't work (if I highight a bit of this page and right-click, you'll see "cut" is greyed out), but if I'm highlighting in my notepad file, which I can edit, then cut removes the highlighted section, which I can then paste elsewhere - (including elsewhere in the notepad file), or into another notepad file.

China why not put them in foldres?

Click on Favorites on your tool bar
Now Organise favorites
Next New Folder & give it a name

Now you should be able to drag your addresses into your new folder

Another question I have.

Any suggestions how to store all these useful web addys for future use?

At the moment I´m adding them to my favourites list but realize I can´t continue like this as my list is so long now I can´t find anything!

I really would like to put them into groups but can only think of opening a document and doing it that way. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Thank you all for the advice. I find the CRT C & V hint very easy to do. I used to write on a pad all the long web addresses given here, (sometimes getting it wrong!) then type them all into Google. I can´t believe how fast this is to do!
A billion thanks Gerri and Sylvia.

I also find it easier to c&p within the same site by doing this:-

highlight the piece

click on EDIT at the top of your screen

click on COPY

go to where you want to insert the piece, and place your mouse pointer at the beginning

click on EDIT again,

click on PASTE

we all have different ways of doing it ..... some find one way easier, others prefer to do it another way.

Also...

Heres how to get back to your thread (original question)

Click on 'Community' In the green strip...

Then look to the right hand side of your screen.....scroll down till you see....'Top Tips'

...at the bottom it says....'My Threads'....click on that!

This will take you to any threads you have started also any threads you have contributed to.

Hope this helps

This is how my grandaughter taught me to copy n paste.

Point your little arrow thingy (cursor) at the begining of the bit you want to copy...

Then click the left hand mouse...still hold it down while your draw the arrow thingy over the address....this will highlight it.....

Let go of the lefthand clicker ....
Now right click over the blue line and you get a drop down box....click on copy.....

(i call this...it's now stored in my mouse)
---------------------

Now it's stored in your mouse you have to empty your address bar (blank)
Then...left click into the addy bar and you get the drop down box again.....click 'paste'
==================

Hope this helps
