Adoption in 1880's

Would someone who was adopted in the year above, carry on through life in there adopted name. I cannot find any trace of this person, after she had a child in 1907. No marriage or anything i do have her on the 1891 & 1901 census. Would someone be able to give me any idea's where to look next. |

Adoption was not a legal procedure until the mid-1920's. before that, all arrangements were informal, and often merely a case of relatives taking in an orphaned (or,at least,motherless) child |

My family adopted a child and I later found out that the fathers were friends and her father was hung for theft. |

There doesn't always need to be a familial link, could be a member of the same church, a friend, or a neighbour. Or could be brother in law's sister in law's sister. LOL. If there's no clue found could be that there is no clue. Have you looked at neighbours etc on the census or witnesses on marriage cert? |
