I'd assumed a relative had died between censuses

The weird thing with the possibility of her marrying a Musk is that it could possibly make my Parents in law distantly related!
Musk is a name from Mum in laws side, while the Flatman is from Dad in laws.

You can always send for this MC and see if the brides fathers name is Arthur?

I wouldn't discount it and I'm grateful to Jim for flagging up possibilities to me. I'm still quite new to this and just when you think you've got one branch of the family pegged it goes off elsewhere! :D

LOL Claire!

Censuses from the Latin censere which means estimate, judge

OK I read the dictionary!

I honestly can't say I've seen the Mary C Flatman entry anywhere Jim. And would they change her name over 10 years like that? I don't know enough yet to say.

So,you cannot accept that this is the same girl?
1901
Catherine M Flatman Arthur abt 1890 Bressingham, Norfolk, England Daughter Bressingham, Norfolk
1891
Mary(May) C Flatman Arthur,Elizabeth abt 1890 Bressingham, Norfolk, England Daughter Bressingham, Norfolk

Yes I think Harriet Bond is the Grandmother and if she's Elizabeth's mother it makes more sense now. Thank you Carrie and everyone for all the help.

Just to throw in a Spanner, is it possible maybe Harriet Bond is their Grandmother??

I think the he did have a sister Catherine May as well Jim. Although she isn't on the 1891 census she is on the 1901 one. Also there were a lot of Flatman families round there then and they were fairly large families at that. I think the 1906 record you refer to is a marriage.

Thelma

Thelma Report 1 Apr 2008 16:27

You might explain who the Catherine is with Spencer 1901
birth
Catherine May Flatman 1890 Jan-Feb-Mar Guiltcross Norfolk
marriage
Catherine May Flatman 1906 Oct-Nov-Dec Thetford Norfolk, Suffolk

Ta for that.
One other question that has raised it's head since I started this thread.
Is it censuses or censi? :)

SallyF

SallyF Report 1 Apr 2008 16:16

Thanks Karen. That looks a possibility doesn't it. Her brother Spencer was married in 1912 so 1916 wouldn't be too far out for her to get wed. I'll pursue that line for a while thanks.

SallyF

SallyF Report 1 Apr 2008 16:11

I know. It's rather confusing. The only thing I can think is that as there were at least two Flatman families in Guiltcross there is some cross 'contamination'.

Thelma

When I search the 1891 census where you can click to view the records I get:
FLATMAN ARTHUR 31 Banham, Guiltcross View
FLATMAN ELIZABETH 21 Banham, Guiltcross View
FLATMAN SPENCER 3 Banham, Guiltcross View
FLATMAN MAY E 1 Banham, Guiltcross

Jim it told me on the census transcription here that she was May Elizabeth. The original could read like Mary C. I'd read it as May B to start with. But either way she disappeared.

Where is May Elizabeth?

SallyF

SallyF Report 1 Apr 2008 15:46

So from the 1891 census May would be about 12 by the 1901 census. I would still guess that she maybe died but unless I find her on a death register I can't be certain. I might take a trip to the graveyard which is local to where they were in 1901 and see if she's there.
