Hi Claire, well I googled Brent Cross Shopping Centre and got 127,000 hits but .... don't know what this tells me. I get that it is a shopping centre, but how does that relate to Colindale?

Maybe figured it out ... Colindale is the neighbourhood or area where the Shopping Centre is located, right?

That's about 5.5 miles from where my g-grandfather lived. They were south of Marylebone Rd and east of Edgeware, on a no longer existant street off of Crawford St. Would the closest police station be in Colindale?

Colindale is place in North London, Google Brent Cross Shopping Centre as it very close to there

Thanks Jill. Being in Canada I have no way of knowing where the nearest police station would be. Tried the Gale newspapers with no success. What is Colindale?

It's unlikely that the inquest records will have survived as there was a time limit for keeping them so most have been destroyed.

Try contacting the nearest hospital to the address where he died.

Try the nearest police station to where he died - I read an old thread on here sometime ago about the police keeping records even if the inquest record had gone.

Try local papers - there's a thread for Gale newspapers on the boards - or Colindale in London. I found a mention of an 1897 suicide through the Gale site in Lloyd's Weekly Newspaper - whereas I found no mention of it in the local newspapers of the time on microfiche at L B of Southwark.

They seemed to be reported within a day or two so as long as you have the date you might be able to find something.

Would anyone know how/where to obtain inquest details? My gr-grandfather died 3 Oct 1891 in Marylebone. I have his death cert. In col 7 - signature, descr and res of informant - it says Certificate received from George Danford Thomas, Coronor for London. Inquest held eighth October 1891.

Keep forgetting the time difference! I see this posted at 01:01 which probably means all you lovely people out there have gone to bed. It's just 7 p.m. here in Manitoba, so I'll check back after breakfast tomorrow which will not be before about 3 p.m. GMT.
