That's interesting. We have the deeds to our house in Coventry and the family that lived there for years was called Wigston, which I had never come across as a surname before. I'd have to go digging in the cupboard, but would be happy to do that for you, so PM me if you would like me to get all the details for you. I know there is a death certificate and I also recall that he was born after the 1901 census, cos I did have a look at the time.

Both Wickson and Wickston are always a possibility with this name, but already tried and unfortunately not in this case.

Could it be spelt Wickston/Wickson?

I only ask because I'm having a nightmare with my Branstons - I've had Bronson, Braunston, Brownson, Bronston, Braunstone, Branstone etc. I've got a list of possible "creative" spellings to work with!

Hmm, that kind of explains things a bit. I guess they were from one family because every Wixon from Coventry was missing from the bmd index, and it appears there were a few of them.
Thats going to make my task a bit more difficult

Robert may not have been registered at all as registration wasn't compulsory until 1875,

Arthur should be registered. Could he have been born before his parent's marriage and therefore registered under his mother's maiden name?

I cannot find names of the Wixon family in Coventry in the BMD indexes prior to around 1881. I find the names in the census which states that they were born in Coventry, but no birth at all around that time appears. I have one which is taken from a parish register, Arthur Wixon was born in 1879 in Coventry, date of birth 1/3/1879, baptised 21/3/1879. He also appears in the 1881 census as being 2 years old and born in Coventry, but nothing in the BMD index. His father, Robert Wixon also appears in the census as being born in Coventry around 1850, but again nothing in the BMD index.
I have this problem for several members.
I have tried different spellings but to no avail.
Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated
