Will try tthat. Thank you for the advice, have tried searching individual words but without much luck of putting together the whole picture.

Put the word 'sasine' into your search engine. It comes up with the Sasine Register - first a copy of a document in fancy old writing - then a large number of sections explaining what it is all about. The Sasine, briefly as far as I can see, is another form of Land Register but based on the original counties and old names, but it explains it all in the notes - good luck

I have a sasine abridgement and just do not understand it. Can anyone put it into words for the simple minded. It reads as follows:

James Gibson of Hillhead and his trustee (a couple of words in italics I cannot read) Jul. 10. Nov. 9. 1830, by the Trustee for the Funds belonging to the Mortification made to the College of Glasgow by Anne late Duchess of Hamilton - of parts of the lands of BYRES of PARTICK and HILLHEAD par. Govan; - and of £1800, balance of £2300, balance £1300, in Bond and Disp. by the said James Gibson to James Barnwell Tatnall, Commander R.N., Dec. 17. 1824 (a bit in italics I cannot read) the security for the said balance of £1800 to 21 Acres of the lands of Hillhead including the Mansion House, Offices and other Buildings in said grounds.

Beware anyone who helps me as I have more.
