I have received a marriage certificate but I can only find details of the male half in the 1901 census. The female part May Pickering, 22 from Middlesbrough lists Edward Pickering, Labourer as Father but I cannot correlate from Census details. What can I do now?

What year was the marriage?

Neil

Possibly she was illegitimate and may have invented a father to 'save face'

Alternatively she may be listed under a step father's surname in the 1901.

Can you translate the age(22) into a birth year.

Mary Pickering born Middlesborough, aged 8, father Edward, Mother Elizabeth

May and Mary are interchangeable.

Neil,

Do not assume that where someone marries is where they were born.

My Mother was born in Glasgow and married in Hampshire.

I have looked at the image qI quoted in my previous post, although indexed as Mary the Image shows she is May.
