This looks like his birth, so you may need to buy the cert to find his parents.

The Geoerge & Charlotte Moore that he's living with in 1881 have a 5 yr. old son Walter Moore in 1871, born Norwich. Is he Walter Howes later?

Have been out for hours but just looked at this thread again and for what it's worth I think you have cracked it!

Let's hope that Linda comes back.

oohhh that's interesting but creates another puzzle. Think what I'll do is send for his marriage cert first and see what information is shown on that. Then send for the birth cert. Have just looked at freebmd and there's no Walter Moore for that year or either side of it.
I'll let you know the outcome.
