You could try looking on the passenger lists on findmypast.com. I just found my great grandfather listed on a ship to Kenya in 1913, but frustratingly my great grandmother wasn't with him and I can't find her on there under her married or maiden name.

Hi Julie

Sorry I can't give you any help, but I have a similar problem myself. My Grandmother went to Africa as a small child between the 1891 and 1901 census with her parents and siblings. she returned in the 20's after their death. I would love to know miore, but have never found any information. Don't even know which part of Africa it was!

Can anyone give me any advice on researching my great-grandmother's family in Africa during this period? She moved to Kenya in about 1913 to Nairobi. Her husband died in 1920 and she married a farmer but I don't know where in Kenya they lived. They moved to South Africa around the late 1920s.

As well as records of births/deaths/marriages etc. I also need info on what what it was like to live in Africa during that period for Colonials.

Any help appreciated.
