Have you managed to find them on the 1901 census at all then? John and the children at least? If Mary Ann's not present then that death in 1897 is a possibility.

Many thanks Linda, the witnesses on the marriage cert are Sarah Beautyman and Mary Ann Craddock (i think Craddock is correct although writing is not that clear)

Can't find either a John or Mary Beautyman in the 1881 Census - although Im guessing its fairly easily been mistranscribed. There is however in the 1891 census a Mary Ann Beautyman with her husband, John Beautyman living in London (again no finer details as no current subscription) but they have 6 children aged 1 to 10
Charles, 8
Elizabeth, 4
George, 10
Harry, 1
Jane, 2
John, 7

and a lodger, George Morris aged 23.

This Mary Ann fits in with the death registration. Struggling to find any of the other family members in 1901 though. But searching again under the 1871 census for a Mary Mead born circa 1860/1/2 The only Mary I can find who has a father named John is the one mentioned above with a brother called Ebenezer which Im sure isnt her as shes still there when we know her to be married.

There are a couple of Mary Ann Meads registered in Lambeth in Q1 of 1862 and 2 Mary Meads in the quarter year and registration district.

I hope I haven't muddied the water too much. I was trying to get a fix on her and then work backwards.

If you have her on the census either as beautyman or mead I would put all the details on here and the same with her marriage cert details. My great grandads age is inaccurate on his marriage cert and not for the reason of allowing him to marry,he would have been legal anyway, its just wrong. But if you're still stuck I'd order her death certificate which should have a few more details on although it might be worth checking what first. I know nowadays it has a dob on. you could then look at tracing her birth and ordering her certificate. It should help with her parents and finding them and information on them.

Although I think that family is unlikely as this appears to be them in the 1881 Census and Mary A is still showing as living at home and as a Mead and your Mary married Mr. Beautyman in 1879 so not the right family I think....

Alternatively..... in the 1871 census - if you just type mary Mead in, fathers name John and allow a couple of years either side for her birth year there are a couple of possibilities either born or living in London, one in partic was Stepney...

John Mead, 38
Mary Mead, 41
Ebenezer Mead, 15
Elizabeth G Mead, 6
George J Mead, 13
John N Mead, 9
and Mary A Mead, 11

I looked on the IGI and Batch Number: C042681 is for Stepney.

If you look there searching for Mead there is a William Robert Mead who just might be the right one. I can't see him on the 1881 census but he might be on earlier ones.
I see he has a Maria Amelia as daughter and I wondered if that might just be the same girl.

I have a few relatives in my tree who swop and change between their first and middle names and think it wasn't uncommon when your mum/dad/cousins had the same name as you.

If that is the right man I have found him on the 1881 census, Mary Ann and Alice would have moved on or married by then though I would guess but there are other children and it shows fathers occupation....

There's a Mary Ann Mead in the 1861 Census born about 1858 whose fathers name in Henry John. States her birthplace is Kent and residing in Surrey in 1861. There's also an Alice Jane Mead aged 1, mum's called Mary Ann Mead aged 27 and dad is Henry John Mead aged 28. I can't get any more info off this as I haven't got a subscription at the moment but its on Ancestry.

I have found info Mary Ann Mead (born 1858 and died approx 1897, married John Beautyman Aug 1879 in the district of Mile End Old Town, Middlesex. The marriage certificate i obtained states Mary's father as Robert Mead, occupation - stone mason.)
I have spent some time trying to find more info on Robert Mead with no Luck!!! Is it possible that census records may not state the persons true name? Could 'Robert' be the middle name? Does anyone have any tips for me to help me find more info?
