Jane,

I went there yesterday.

I used the website before I went and just searched for my home town, from that I selected a few books that I wanted to look at. I found records for my family from the 1880's showing who was eligible to vote. Also the town's book of rememberance for WW1 which included my GF and a GGU. I also managed to have a quick read at a book about my old school.

It's worth keeping searching on the website, but the staff are very helpful. Documents took about an hour to arrive. You can order books on-line in advance, but not sure if you have to be registered first.

Don't forget to make sure you have the necessary id for registration.

Hope this helps
Anne

I am thinking of going to the British Library next week. Please can anyone tell me what I am likely to find there. I have had a quick look at their website but I must be thick because it didn't help me much.

Thanks

Jane
