Hi

I really need some help.

My grandads parents are Harry Hayes and Mary James, married in 1921, had their first daughter, Doris in 1921, and my grandad, Dennis, in 1926. Harry's birth was registered in 1902 in Mkt Drayton, however, how can I find any more out about Mary? I know her name, I don't know her DOB, or day she died, or where they are buried?

Any tips?

Thanks

KathleenBell

If you buy their marriage certificate it should give you her approximate age (sometimes people aren't very truthful about their ages) and her father's name and occupation (unless she was illegitimate).

This looks like the marriage:-

Name: Harry Hayes
Year of Registration: 1921
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Spouse's Surname: James
District: Atcham
County: Montgomeryshire, Shropshire
Volume: 6a
Page: 1399

Also on the page is a Mary E. James.

Hi Emma

I would get the marriage certificate first. This should give Mary's second given name. If neither of my posts are for right person, run a search on FreeBMD for Mary Jmes births in Shropshire for, say, 1890-1905.

Where are you ordering it from Emma? If you order online from the GRO it should only take a couple of weeks, sometimes less.
