Just ordered the marriage cert - despatch date 17th march, need to wait now - i hate waiting, lol

The James Barton in Hampshire is down as single, so not likely to be your man.

Hi Stephanie

You might want to order the marriage cert. This would give you James' fathers name (hopefully), might be able to find him on an earlier census with parents.

There is a James Barton on 1901c in Hampshire at the Royal Military Barracks, but no way to know if yours.

thats the marriage entry i think, he was married to rose williams

dont think he was in the war though, family never mentioned anyone being in there, will search military records on findmypast tho just to make sure,

Could he have been in the army and been away in the Boer War, as going by his wife's age, he would seem about the right age for this?

Can anyone find my grandmother in law's father in the 1901 census - he is shown on her marriage cert in 1912 as James George Barton - contractor at a colliery
