Hi Rebecca

The national archives at Kew only hold the paperwork to divorce cases up till 1938, after this date if you want to search for a divorce you will need to apply to the:

Principal Registry of the Family Division
Decree Absolute Section
First Avenue House
42-49 High Holborn
London
WC1V 6NP

Its £40 for a 10 year search, and if you want the nisi aswell as the absolute you will need to tell them.


Unless you mean 1889-1890? if so then divorce was very expensive then.

does it not state on his 2nd marriage certificate formerly the husband of..... or something similar? My great grandfather married 3 times and I havent found any divorce records but it does clearly state on his marriage certificates his previous wives.

If it was bigamy......they simply told lies when making their declarations...........

My Grandfather parted from his first wife about 1989- 90. I can find no evidence of a divorce at Kew Records Office, I have my Grandparents marriage certificate and his first wife was still alive when they married. Is this an obvious case of bigamy, and if so, how were they able to do this and get away with it.
