I went to a Family History Fair a few months ago and bought a booklet containing photographs of Prisoners from Oxford Gaol in the 1880s. They were in for a variety of fairly minor offences and I thought it would be a great way of finding a photo of an ancestor although didn't find any of mine. I would think the county Record Office would be the best place to look for prison records.

had a relative in prison in 1888,although only for a short while before being transfered to an asylum. He went to lincoln england. Does anyone know if photgraphs were taken when people were arrested.
