Thanks for your replies, I found out that it was Isabel, so the nickname probably related to the sister thing. |

My mum had an uncle "Sis" - real name was Cecil, and my dad remembers a cousin of his mother's who married "Cissie" - her real name was Elizabeth! |

I'm another one who had an aunt Sis...Her actual name was Georgina and she was named Sis because she was the only girl in the family of boys. |

My mother remembers her aunt was called Sis, this is obviously short for something. Any ideas of her real name will be appreciated. |
