I have obviously hit a wrong key and lost the bottom bar - the one that usually shows at the bottom of the screen which shows things like date/time or what programs I am running or browser windows etc

How do I get the bar back please?

I know its called the Taskbar - I've lost it in the past so I know what you mean (I'm still losing it but that's another story!).

Go into the Start menu (mine's bottom left) and then Control Panel - there should be an icon for Taskbar with options.

Failing that it's the Help menu - and cross fingers for a whizzy wizard who will sort it out for you.
