If you want to eliminate really common names like John Smith from your hot matches, just add an asterisk or similar character after the name in your tree, and it won't show up as a match.

You're right Linda, sometimes it is worth trawling through pages of 'luke-warm' and even 'ice-cold' matches when it leads you to a good one.

My best so far wasn't really a hot match to a direct rellie, but the contact was so helpful - had been resaerching for years, in-laws and 'side shoots' as well, and has been very generous in giving me helpful leads. They haven't given me the whole lot, just enough to enable me to find the 'hidden rellies' myself - much more fun!

The moral is - don't dismiss the much-maligned 'Hot Matches' - you never know what they will lead to!

I have a couple of JohnSmith's in my tree and am dreading the day that they appear in my Hot Matches!

Had to let you know it is worth checking them. After receiving seven plus pages of JOHN SMITH's for the last don't know how long, I've finally had a hit today. Still early days but it is most definately a match.
