Well it was the information from the census - I think it may be more like 'grandmother in law'

In 1861 when you had Martha with Charles Knights - he has granddaughter Mary A Cross aged 14 and grandson Edward Knights aged 2. Charles is married - not widowed. So his wife is probably Ann who was not at home that night.

In 1871 you found Martha Cook living with William Grimmer. I found his marriage on bmd index and he married Mary A Cross who you mentioned on a previous census, but you said his mother in law was Ann Knight? Any ideas

Thats ok Jen.

I cannot find a likely suspect for Martha in 1901 - that marriage is only a guess - as I thought I would check alternative spellings for Cook. There are a few Benjamin Catchpoles but I saw one in 1891 he was a widower aged 60. Perhaps she married him? His first wife was called Elizabeth Sarah. The 1881 census gives his year of birth more like 1839 and there is a death in Yarmouth for a Benjamin Catchpole in 1907 aged 71. (His is down as Catchpoole in 1881). Although by 1901 he is still a widower - so it may not be him.

But as I cannot see a Benjamin Catchpole with a wife Martha in 1901 - who knows!

The age is slightly out but notice that Jesse Knights is a lodger - its possible he is a relation of the Knights family who Martha stayed with before? Jesse is a cab driver and Martha is a general domestic servant.

Other Cook's in the workhouse were Elizabeth aged 21 an unmarried servant born in Martham and Gabriel aged 51 a Waterman born in Harborough.

Margaret Elizabeth Cook is a bit of a mystery, I have her son's birth certificate Henry George Cook born 6/5/1884 in the workhouse in Great Yarmouth looks like she wasn't married at the time. Have found on 1881c Martha Cook 1852 Great Yarmouth unmarried with a possible daughter Mary A Cook 1877 Great Yarmouth. Obviously this doesn't confirm anything for me so I started looking at possible marriages as can't find any death records for her.

Jen. Lancashire marriage indexes Sam found give the correct wifes name not all possible spouses on the same page like freebmds.

Therefore you are not looking for William Riecks but William Sanders with wife Martha Elizabeth.

When was Martha Elizabeth born so we can take a look for them on the census

Totally confused now Martha Elizabeth Cook is my GG Grandmother and came across marriage records and I thought William Sanders married Alice Mary Atlee as I found 1901c details Alice Sanders, so I assumed William Riecks married Martha Elizabeth Cook, hope this helps anyone trying to help, or am I totally on wrong track.

Can`t find William on the 1881 census but did find a few Riecks/Rieck/Rik etc. all from various parts of Germany.
