Good morning I have a record on the IGI for a birth and baptisim of a child William Finch born 1834 in Essex but when I asked at the local record office to find this for me they say it is not there any ideas Please

I think you'll find that parish records are held in most main libraries and not registry offices.

I can see two William Finch baptisms for 1834 in Essex and they are both non-conformists. Were the Records Office actually looking at the non-conformist records as these are usually held separately from the usual C of E parish records.

To be honest though, you won't get any more information than is on the IGI, other than possibly the occupation of the father.

thank you for your inputs I have other parish records from the records office of Suffolk but I will have to see about the library for the area of Essex that I want.
