Depends on which dates you are talking about


The Free BMD will cover Births, marriages & deaths 1837 to 1920 ish

Ancestry will cover 1837 to 2005 with 1920-1983 not being indexed

www.ancestry.co.uk

Neither sites will give you the full information that you need, only certs will provide that.

Certs are available from

www.gro.gov.uk

& they cost £7

freebmd is the website you need

but the records are not all transcribed, you will not get much further than the early 1920,s at the most

For complete records, or later ones, you need to look at Ancestry, a subscription site.
It means looking quarter by quarter, so is far more difficult. Having said that if you know the year an event happened there are plenty of people who will do a look up fior you

To add to above, The Register is only an Index, it will give you name, quarter of year when registered, where registered, vol and page number. To see the actual certificate you have to purchase, £7 from GRO.

freebdm site (google will find it) is, as the name suggests BUT only goes utp to 1915-1920ish.

ancestry website covers right up to 2004 but needs a subscription paying.

many of us have a sub if you need anything looking up, just shout

Do you mean the Civil register?
Try FreeBMD, just 'google' for it and you will find it.

On Ancestry and other sites you have to have a subscription.

They are also available at Local registry offices.

could someone please tell me how to access the bmd records? I may be able to find out whether the names ive been given are those of my relatives if only i could access these records!
