Back in the 70s I went to a Tupperwear party being held in a new neighbours house, her mother was also attending the party and she kept looking at me in a strange way. When I plucked up enough courage to ask her why, she said I reminded her of her cousin who was killed during the war.

We exchanged information and the surprise was, she and my mother were first cousins. I explained that my mother had not been killed by the bomb, but our house had suffered and as my dad was in a reserved occupation, we were moved to Grimsby.

My neighbour moved to Canvey Island about 1979 and I visited her there in 1995. I now have the family tree that I would like to give her a copy of, but i am unable to find her.

I have checked the most recent Electoral Register and the phone book, but no luck.......suggestions please, where do I go now???

Hi Kathlyn

I know this seems like a bit of a long shot, but anything's worth a try. How about writing to the next-door neighbours of the 1995 address and see if they know where she is now?

When I was looking for my living uncle in South Africa three years ago, I wrote to his last UK address from 1985 and the people who bought his house did actually have his SA address!

Jean has access to the 2007 electoral roll and may be able to find your friends for you.

Hi Kathlyn,

A lot of people have opted out of the later elec rolls, this has been an option from 2003 onwards.
I have a copy of the 2002 roll do you want me to take a look on that for her ? If so pm me the details.

If you don't live too far away there's nothing to lose from doing a bit of door knocking at the houses nearby.

I recently decided to knock on a few doors in the vicinity of a car accident to see if anyone had any infomation and was pleasantly surprised with the genuine helpfulness of people.

If you can grab somebody's interest you may get lucky
