Cannot find record - Phyllis Ripley nee Jones

Hi there,

I have been trying to look up records for a Phyllis Jones who was my great- great grandmother and was married to a Moses Ripley. They lived in the Hastings area and had 16 children!!!! However, I cannot find her name in any of the birth, death, marriage records- on this website, free bmd and ancestry.

The only info I have is that she was born in Ashford Kent c1874 and that she was a Hawker, anyone got any ideas how I can get any info on her?

Can you tell us whether you have already found this family on any census records - thanks.

Although I have found records for a Moses Ripley marrying in the Hastings area, there isn't a corresponding Phyllis Jones on the same page. Perhaps Moses was married twice - or it could be he was married and his first wife died, but later on when he met Phyllis they may have just lived together.

Also, how do you know Phyllis was born in Ashford?

Birth registration wasn't compulsory until 1875....the birth may not have been registered

Neither 1891 nor 1901 censuses show a Moses Ripley whose wife's name is Phyllis

Do you have the birth cert of one of their children?

If not, what is the source of your info?

1891 census has a Moses Ripley in Hastings with a wife Genllia?, son Moses and daughter Priseller!
