Lyn, A long story but I eventually found my Lithuanian family by searching the Lithuanian phone directory and then writing letters to each and every one. Between a few of them they got my F H back to about 1870 but there the story stopped and they had no further knowledge. I tried the centre in Vilnius where they keep such records (P.Rs etc.,) and they tell me that there is something like a 3 year waiting list !!!
I looked in the book and found that there are 24 numbers with the name Vainys.

Only two boxes - put the surname into the first one and leave the 2nd one as is .

Write in English and try other languages if you know any (preferably German) and enclose return addressed envelope and TWO International Reply Coupons which you should be able to get from any MAIN Post Office, Check out some of the addresses in case any of the others are in same address or next door

Good Luck

Thank you for your tip, I'll go and check it out now.

You have every right to push your nose up in the air with your three proper prams!

I know I asked this ages ago, but thought I might do again just in case there are any fresh ideas.

I have Lithuanian relatives in my tree dating back at least to 1850 and before. I am at a complete standstill and can't find any information that will take me further back. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Briefly: Maternal GtGrandmother married Peter Black, her father was Henry Waisnis (anglicised to Wiseness on some census returns) and I have been reliably informed that the original spelling would be Vaisnys.

Look forward to hearing from you if you can give me any further pointers.

Regards,
Lyn x
