Many people on here will do census lookups if you post some details or if you want to do them yourself, look at the Ancestry website. It's a subscription site.

For BMDs you will have to use scotlandspeople, also a pay site.

Surely the terms 'free' and 'Scottish' are mutually exclusive..........

When you look at the overall cost though, its actually cheaper to get a BMD from Scotlandspeople than the GRO.

At £6 you can, if you use the credits right, get 5 certs compaired to £7 for just one cert from the GRO.
