Have you seen this one? Not Sydney, I'm afraid, but could be significant . . .

Hi Sylvia

I have been looking on Ancestry mainly and also find my past.

Found Eunice and Eileen on Free bmd, but nothing on Sydney anywhere.

Hi

I have been looking for the birth of a great uncle, that I know from my mother existed and I have a photo of him to prove it! lol. Only problem is I can't find his birth registration.

His name is Sydney Joseph Smith, mmn Nye.

His parents married in 1918 q2 in Tonbridge, Kent.

Joseph Smith (aged 24) a farm labourer and Alice Nye (aged 22).

I have found my nans birth (Eunice Mary Smith) in 1921, along with a sister (Eileen Dorris Smith) in 1920 who we didn't know existed, lol, both of them registered in Newport Pagnell, but no sign of Joseph.

I have searched prior to the marriage from 1916 in both surnames Smith in case he was born out of wedlock and also under Nye, but no joy. I have also search for all Smiths born from 1918 to 1931 and not come across another with mothers maiden name of Nye apart from the ones I have mentioned.

According to my mum, both her mum Eunice and Sydney were placed in a childrens home, have no Idea about Eileen, as no one knew of her existance until I found her birth cert the other week.

The only other conclusion I can come up with is that Eileen may be Sydney. Maybe changed sex or something.

If anyone has any other ideas about where to look next I would be ever so grateful.

thanks
Tracie.
