Hi :-)
Is there anyone out there who may be able to help me? I have come to a halt with one of my ancestors. Her name was Janet Cameron b:c1807. In the 1851 census her birth place is written as 'Doune Stirlingshire' 1861 it is written as 'Alloa Stirlingshire' and in her last census appearance in 1871 it reverts back to 'Doune Stirlingshire'. I have confused myself trying to 'google' information and am unsure as to where to find her birth details on 'Scotlandspeople'. I have also found when cross referencing on 'Ancestry.com' that some where born in 'Doune Stirlingshire' and others in 'Doune Perthshire'? So which is it Stirlingshire or Perthshire??? Geography is not a strong point of mine. I would be most grateful to anyone who is able to enlighten me and point me into the right direction.
Thanks in Advance - Steve Campbell.

Doune is in Perthshire.
Perthshire and Stirlingshire are beside each other so it is possible that she was born in a small village and it was the nearest big town when the enumerator asked "Where's that?" and she said "Its near Doune"
General Registration didnt start in Scotland till 1855 so her birth might not be on Scotlandspeople though there may be mention of her baptism/birth.
Do you know her parents names? or have her in the 1841?

Doune is north west of Stirling and Alloa east. Stirling is the nearest big town to both.

The boundaries between Stirlingshire, Perth & Kinross, and Clackmannanshire (last resting place of Alloa) were quite fluid at the times in question.

Hi All :-)
I thank each and every one who has replied to my posting. What fast responses. The consensus is 'Perthshire'. Whilst Alistair has pointed out rightly, boundaries during this period where very changeable. This is where I was having problems in discerning 'Dounes' placing.
Naturally there is good reason behind my understanding whether it was Perthshire or Stirlingshire. In the last few days I have gained Janet Cameron's death certificate for the year 1871. Janet thrice times married, died of bronchitis October 26th 1871 aged 65 [I would say give or take a year]. Her parents are written as William Cameron 'Soldier Private in the 91st foot' and janet Cameron ms. Cameron [both deceased]. I have not been able to find marriage details for a William Cameron and Janet Cameron. The closest I have found under 'Perth' is baptism record for Janet Cameron bap:1807 lawfull daughter of William Cameron ~ Mason and Janet Buchannan in Perth. I also have the marriage entry for William and Janet. William Cameron ~ Mason and Janet Buchannan at Anninitybun, in the parish of scone, daughter of William Buchannan ~ Farmer there. In neither entry does it mention 'Doune' but 'Perth' it does. It mentions William as a 'Mason but not as a 'Soldier'. Again I would appreciate to gain others thought regarding the above. Am I going of into a huge tangent??? Or could I possibly be on the correct pathway.
Thanks in Advance -Steve.
