Searching for Scottish ancestors

Over on the records board Ann is offering lookups at the Records Office in Edinburgh.

You could tell her William's name, when he was born and the name of his father, and get her to check the three possible births.

That would help you narrow it down and enable you to order the correct cert.

I do have his father name from the marriage certificate, and have narrowed the birth year down from the marriage certificate also to 1911.
But Have got no further, any ideas?

Unless you know the name of at least one of his parents, the birth certs will not necessarily help........

Has anyone any ideas, how to search for a Scottish ancestor called William Blair, born 1911.
I have tried scotlandspeople.gov.uk, but it comes up with 3 possible people, and I don't know how to narrow it down without paying for 3 birth certifcates at £10 a time!

Any help would be appreciated.
