my husbands grandmother was Fanny Cocker before she married Ronald Bentham Holding.
Whilst searching for a birth today I came across this person
Martino V.R.A.G.F.F.M.V.M.M.B Traxler Iwonder if they have special forms when it comes to putting their full name

On "Patience Waring" (good one) -- I can't find her now, but how about having a wife named Admonishing?

While searching for her, I did come across

Name: Marcherfrop of The Down A Jer Bread Llon
Birth: abt 1771 - Scotland
Residence: Kirkliston, West Lothian

I wonder what his (her?) mother called him (her?) when it was time for dinner ...

Well, I'd tell you my favourite, but it would get deleted.

At Ancestry, search for Mercy Fricker or Tucker -- I'm not sure which it actually is, but I think Fricker -- using the spelling I'm sure you can guess by now. Poor Mercy is just lucky she lived in the days before late-night crank telephone calls.

Then search for that four-letter word with an asterisk for wild card, as in

beep*

and see what you get. Some are quite amusing. You'll notice a few corrections, by me of strangers I happened on, and by people whose ancestors have actually been called those names by the good Mormons at Ancestry.

Search for any other old naughty word you can think of, too. They're all there.

One of my other favourites is the young man who was undoubtedly quite proud of his middle name: Dupré. Per Ancestry, it was actually Pukes.

But Nimrod Squelch, he was a real person.

Re. Wills
One written by my step grandmother in 1933 has the lines.....

George.......my son...( mentions bequeathed items)...and my forgiveness for the unpleasantness he caused in 1932.

I wonder what he did?

Hi

My 7xgreat grandfather Claudius Fradine left a will in 1750 and he died 16 years later. But the will said "I give and bequeth to my son Francis twenty pounds, on the condition that he behaves himself, and if he does otherwise my wife shall have it". Francis was 19 at that time and I found it highly funny that Claudius had to tell his son to behave in a will. I have never come across that before. Obviously Francis was a bit of a rebel.

I have come across some really amusing surnames that have swear words or part swear words in them. There is a transcript of Boyds Marriage Index for Essex on a free website and there are a couple of W***ford's in the index in the 1720s. The censored word rhymes with Tank, but I wont say the actual word. Google it to see for yourself. I was in giggles but obviously that word probably wasnt a swear word back in those days.

One of my ancestors sisters was called Fanny Brain.
