Hi Heather I keep on running out of time, doing look ups for you, sorry. Now that I'm back online, I've had a look at the research guides. This seems to be the relevant bit: 10. Mercantile Marine Reserve The Mercantile Marine Reserve (MMR) were merchant seamen serving on merchant vessels requisitioned by the Admiralty for wartime service, some of whom may also have served in the Royal Naval Reserve. Service details can therefore be sought from BT 377 . Although there is no separate sequence of service records, it may be possible to trace an individual who received the MMR medal in BT 351 . It is also possible that records of service may be found among the merchant seamen's records of service. See the Research Guide Merchant Seamen: Sea Service Records 1913-1972 for more details. Do you know where your research looked? If so, let me know and I can direct attention elsewhere. Rollcall, by the way, doesn't seem to be a royal navy ship - at least I can find nothing in the catalogue.

Alan James Nightingale was aged 30 a labourer when he signed up in 24.8.1914. He had previously been discharged from the 3rd Batt Essex by purchase 7.4.1902. The references run from W0 363 N287 image 323 -355. There is masses of info: children with dates of birth, wife's address, James' physical description. Will add later.

Diana I could not find Henry William Pearce's service record in wo 363. This doesn't necessarily mean that it is lost. Let me know if you would like me to look in WO 364. Some records were misfiled and they are gradually turning up as volunteers find them, so there are seveal places to look.

Hi there, Thanks for your efforts. If it is possible I would be very grateful if you could find William Dumelow's service records. I am really desperate to trace his parents. Hopefully you can make this possible for me. David Dumelow

Irene I'm sorry, but time was very tight, so I had no time to work out which records to look at. If you go to the National Archives website and find the research guide on soldiers, that should tell you which particular records (paylists, musters, discharge papers etc) are the most useful.

Netti I had a look at the medal roll. WO 329/1517 The only extra info it gives is that the medals were authorised at Winominster on 6.2.1920 and Thomas was originally in the 2nd KRRIF.C and at some stage transferred to the 1ST KRRIF.C If you would like me to look for his service record, let me know.

Fiona I ran out of time. Hopefully Charles Leonard Titley's service record will be on microfilm WO 363 T813. Let me know if you would still like me to check for you. David Same as above. William Dumelow should be on WO 363 D1046. William in Gateshead Same excuse, sorry. I'm afraid this whole sheet got out of order and it was only at the end of the day I realised I hadn't checked some easy look ups.
