Find Ancestors

From Simon Knight-Smith. To Wendy FOWLER, I'm glad that the info on birth certificates was useful to you. You also asked about tracing Birth Parents, I presume that you mean in the case where someone has either been adopted or where the father is not known? In a sence, we are getting away from genealogy (ie, establishing relationship connections and family history) and moving to locating missing people (ie, finding out where someone lives now). To be honest, this is not an area that I know anying about and am reluctant to go down that path. The reason is (and I am NOT suggesting that this is the case here) that whilst 99% of people wanting to do this are doing it for perfectly natural and legitimate reasons, there are 1% who are trying to find someone for, shall we say, harmfull reasons. This really is a very sensitive area, but there are organisations set up to help you track missing persons, birth parents etc. I'm afraid I don't have any URL's for them but a google search ought to throw something up. If you ever use newsgroups on the internet, there is one that is of particular help to genealogists new and old. The newsgroup at 'soc.genealogy.britain' is an excellent place to seek further help and advice. There a number of very experienced genealogists who are VERY helpful on that list. I would suggest that, if you haven't done so already, you read JOANNE HALLIWELL's note further down this message board - she has some good advice about how to phrase questions to get the best and most useful response.
