I am looking for the Rushworth family who were living at York street Leeds around 1838/9.
I have a Jonathan Rushworth on the 1841 census living there with a Joseph and Martha. Up to now I thought they were probably brothers and sister. Today I found a marriage for Hannah rushworth and she was living in York street in 1838 The only problem I have is her dad Joseph was a milkman and My Jonathans dad was a cloth dresser. I am just trying to find out any other Rushworths who lived in that street to help me find place them in the correct family.. Thanks for helping

I'm not sure that they would have been eligible to vote ( the women definitely wouldn't)
The Great Reform Act – 1832
In 1832, the Great Reform Act broadened the spectrum of voters to include the likes of landowners and shopkeepers as part of the property criteria. Householders paying more than £10 in annual rent were also given the vote – and the constituency boundaries were rearranged to make representation less unfair.
The act still defined voters as ‘male persons’, however, and continued to exclude swathes of working class workers from elections. Subsequent reforms in 1867 and 1884 increased the electorate further with broader property and rental criteria. They also continued to make voting boundaries more fair, but failed to make any changes for women.

When Hannah re-married in 1854, her father Joseph was described as a Milk Dealer.

Thanks ErikaH and Safc
I must have misread the marriage entry for Hannah's Father's occupation.
The marriage could have been about the right time for Jonathan's father but the occupation is wrong. I'm still no nearer to finding out the correct relationship between Joseph, Martha and Jonathan. Someone did give me a likely parents for Joseph and Martha as Joseph Rushworth and Ann Holmes. I am still not convinced they are brothers and sister.
Thanks again for helping me

Thanks again Safc and ErikaH
So are we saying that Joseph Rushworth is Joseph Rusforth. b 1781 and Joseph married someone by the name of elizabeth and also Married a Mary?
If this is the case then he must have changed jobs???
It is looking that this Joseph could in fact be my Joseph.
