In case you're still wondering about whether Ellen was Mary Ellen's surname or not -

Ellen was her middle name. She was Mary Ellen Peck, then married George Entwistle.

If you look at Dea's useful roundup of all the information people had posted on your earlier threads (see page 1 of this thread), you'll see their marriage record.

Potty Report 7 Aug 2014 09:27

If you look at the image for the 1881 census, you will see that James Entwistle is the Head of the household, Ann is his wife, Matilda his daughter and Robert his father-in-law. So, Robert is Ann's father. Also, there is a \\ next to Robert. That indicates that he is the last one in the household. The Shawsmiths are living next door.

So, looks as if an Entwistle married an Entwistle.

Edit: I think Robert's relationship on the 1881 is wrong - he looks to be James's father (see marriage below) not his father-in-law:

Name:James Entwistle - address 13 Edwin Street; on the 1871 James & Robert are living at 15 Edwin Street

Birth Year:abt 1855
Age:21
Marriage or Bann Date:10 Jul 1876
Parish:Holbeck, St John and St Barnabas
Father's Name:Robert Entwistle
Spouse's Name:Ann Spink Eccles
Spouse's Father's Name:James Eccles

This James is the brother of George who is the father of your James.

as you get further back it becomes a bit more difficult, as registration of births etc didn't come in until 1837, so it relies on parish records.

I have Robert and Isabella in 1871, and 1851...there is a discrepancy in the ages given for instance

Robert's father is john i think i saw that on robert baptism record john and mary?

Rambling

Rambling Report 7 Aug 2014 17:19

It IS harder Adelle lol, and not unusual to get stuck at that period, some parish records are online but not all by any means, so then you may have to search in the location, church records for instance.

I have looked at familysearch.org but not found anything yet but it is worth looking at.
