I am pleased you appreciated the info i posted for you.

I agree that it is more fun finding info for yourself.......and also understand that some members struggle when trying to search for information.

You really do not need to hire anyone to help you........because we can help you for free.

Sometimes though, you need to purchase certificates to make sure you are on the right track.

I suggest you purchase a copy of the Carter/Tooke 1913 marriage to enable you to get back further with your research.

The best place to order certificates is online here...

Regarding Freebmd....

Just to give you an idea of how it works.

You know that Mabel Tooke was born 1917 in Stockton.

So...you click on "Births" ...Put Tooke in the "Surname" box and Mabel in the "First name" box. Put 1917 and 1917 in the "Date range" and click on "Find" at the bottom.

You will see that it gives you Mable's mother's maiden name. (Carter)

You then need to find a Tooke/Carter marriage before 1917.

So.....click on "Marriages"...Put Tooke in the "Surname" box and Carter in the "Spouse/Mother surname" box.

I put in a "Date range" of ten years so......1907----1917

Click on "Find" and up will pop the Stockton marriage in 1913.

To then find out if they had any children....

Click on "Births"
Put Tooke in the "Surname" box and Carter in the "Mother/Spouse name" box.

You know they married in 1913.......so put in a "Date range"of 1913 and lets say 15 years........so 1913....1928

Click on "Find" and see what names pop up.

Give it a go Margaret.

May I advise you to spell the forename correctly (Mabel) when searching.......otherwise you won't find the record
