Hi Everyone,
Can anyone help me with this one, my grandmother's maiden name was Anne Elizabeth Scott born c1891 and she married a James Clusker in Fife in 1910.
I am trying to trace her father a John Scott and his wife an Ann Elizabeth or Elizabeth Ann I do not have her maiden name.
Due to my inexperience at this lark I have used up a lot of credits on Scotlands People trying to get information and all I have found out is that John Scott was a coal miner and that he may have been born c1865 in Crofthead, Sutherlandshire.
Regards,
James Clusker :-(

Thanks Vera,
I don't think that is the family that I am looking for.
I got this from the 1901 Scotland Census of Find My Past and as the address is in Auchtertool and as town is shown on my grandmothers marriage certificate as her place of residence at the time of her marriage, I am sure it is this John Scott born 1865 that I am looking for.
Person: SCOTT, John Address: 4, Landale Terrace, Auchtertool . 1901 Census
WINNING, John Relationship Head Where born Carphin, Lanarkshire Age 43 Birth Year 1858 Occupation Coal Miner
SCOTT, John Relationship Boarder Where born Carphin, Lanarkshire Age 36 Birth Year 1865 Occupation Coal Miner
SCOTT, George Relationship Boarder Where born SCOTT, George Age 24 Birth Year 1877 Occupation Coal Miner Piece: 407 Folio: 1 Page: 1 Registration District: Auchtertool Civil Parish: Auchtertool Municipal Borough: Address: 4, Landale Terrace, Auchtertool County: Fife
Many thanks for your assistance,
James Clusker

Hi AnnCardiff and MarieCeleste,
Thanks for the input but from your previous help I have traced most of those in my family with the name Clusker back to c1821.

Hi James, I did a quick search on SP and found that between 1885 and 1895, there was only one child born with the EXACT name of Ann Elizabeth Scott ( no "E" in Ann) This child was registered in Colinton, Edinburgh in 1890
Do you have the 1910 marriage cert? The names of both sets of parents should be listed on this.

I think this is probably the Ann whose birth Anne found (I can find a James Clusker on the 1911 with a wife Elizabeth but not with an Ann, so it looks as if she went by her second name) but her father is William, a miller:
1891 Scotland Census about Elizabeth Scott Name: Elizabeth Scott Age: 10 Mo Estimated Birth Year: abt 1890 Relationship: Daur (Daughter) Father's Name: William Scott Mother's Name: Elizabeth Scott Gender: Female Where born: Colinton, Edinburgh Registration Number: 677 Registration district: Colinton Civil parish: Colinton County: Midlothian Address: W Mill Cottages No 9 ED: 3 Household schedule number: 101 Line: 5 Roll: CSSCT1891_329 Household Members: Name Age William Scott 34 Elizabeth Scott 35 William Scott 4 John Scott 3 Elizabeth Scott 10 Mo

Hi Anne,
On 1910 marriage certificate for my grandparents James Clusker and Anne Elizabeth Scott and Anne's place of residence at the time of the marriage is given as Thistleford Farm Cottage Auchtertool.
Anne Elizabeth Scott's parents are shown as John Scott Coal Minor and Ann Elizabeth Scott but her maiden surname is illegible, does not help having cataracts when trying to read these old documents.
Regards,
James Clusker

1901 census from Ancestry for John Scott ... conflicting information with the previous one. Might help clarify this particular John Scott's birthplace.

Hello Helen,
This one is really stressing me out, not good at my age, we have two Scott's, and I am not connvinced that the family in Colinton are the correct family as the occupation shown on my my grandmothers marriage certificate for her father John Scott is that of a cooal miner.
1891 Scotland Census for Scott in Colinton, Edinburgh 1901 Scotland Census for Scott in Crofthead, Linlithgowshire

From a free search on Scotlandspeople
There are only two matches coming up for a death. One is listed below and the other took place relatively recently.
Death: 1954 Ann* Elizabeth Scott / Clusker (cross-ref surnames) County: Fife District: Dunfermline
birth year 1891 ( +/- 1yr )
If this is your Granny, it might be worth downloading the image to check out the mother's maiden name (if known by the informant) May be legible this time round.

Hi Helen and Moody Blue,
I vaguely recall as a child my grandmother and grandfather mentioning the name Clancey/Glancey, I am sure they were the best man and bridesmaid at my grandparents wedding.
As to the maiden name of my grandmothers mother I just cannot decipher what it is, it could be Sagar but even using variants in searching marriages nothing comes up.
However when doing a free search on Ann Elizabeth Sagar from 1830 to 1910 no results come up, but doing the same search just using Ann Sagar the following results come up:-
In the 1891 Census for Ann Sagar it says two matches found In theStatutory Register Deaths 1855 to 1855 - 1910 it says two matches found
Oh Why Oh Why did they not use comuters in the 19th century
Regards,
James Clusker

James, SP and people called Sagar
In the statutory deaths , I could find only ONE match to Ann Sagar 1855- 1910 Obviously your great grandmother would need to be living circa 1890 for the birth of her daughter. SP can be refined to give more precise info ....result is: Ann Sagar age 39, died 1892 in Camlachie, Glasgow. There is no Ann Sagar on the 1891 census and assume this was perhaps a maiden name of the deceased I cannot find another name but it definitely not Scott. Perhaps she connects to this family:
Re SAGAR on the 1891 census of Scotland One family in Camlachie. James and Maryann, but this is NOT the woman who died because this family can be found again in both 1901 and 1911 in Yorkshire.
1891 Scotland Census about James Sagar Name: James Sagar Age: 34 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1857 Relationship: Head Spouse's name : Maryann Sagar Gender: Male Where born: England Registration Number: 644/2 Registration district: Camlachie Civil parish: Glasgow Camlachie County: Lanarkshire Address: 190 Fordneuk St Occupation: Worsted Spinning Overbooks ED: 49 Household schedule number: 27 Line: 8 Roll: CSSCT1891_245 Household Members: Name Age James Sagar 34 Maryann Sagar 37 Nellie Ann Sagar 3 Jennie H Sagar 2 Henry Adam 38
The only other Sagars live in Middlebie, Dumfries. all were English and details are on family search. Seems to be a man called Richard with wige Georgina and a father also called Richard 1891 Scotland Census about Richd Sagar Name: Richd Sagar Age: 40 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1851 Relationship: Head Spouse's name : Georgina Sagar Gender: Male Where born: England Registration Number: 841 Registration district: Middlebie Civil parish: Middlebie County: Dumfriesshire Address: Eaglesfield Occupation: Railway Surfaceman ED: 3 Household schedule number: 31 Line: 24 Roll: CSSCT1891_397 Household Members: Name Age Richd Sagar 40 Georgina Sagar 36 Margt Sagar 14 Mary Sagar 11 Ernest Sagar 6 John Jas Sagar 3 Gergina D Sagar 1 Mo

And the only other person in Scotland called Sagar: 1891 Scotland Census about George Sagar Name: George Sagar Age: 21 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1870 Relationship: Visitor Gender: Male Where born: England Registration Number: 644/3 Registration district: Dennistoun Civil parish: Glasgow St John County: Lanarkshire Address: 165 Bellfield St Occupation: Flesher ED: 24 Household schedule number: 60 Line: 13 Roll: CSSCT1891_249 Household Members: Name Age George Kerr 40 Janet Kerr 40 William Kerr 4 Alexr B Kerr 2 George Sagar 21
