It seems that you don't even have to be born in the usual sense:

This Hunt class vessel is named after a Leicestershire hunt.
If it were born anywhere, it would be in Southampton:

It looks like he came under Patrimony which according to Wilkipedia is that he inherited the freedom from his father. So possibly therefore would not need to be born in Ipswich.

I know Anne , it's true , they were Army folk and stationed in Dublin and Canada. The mother is from Dublin.
It's this whole Freeman of Ipswich that started me off... I've tried finding out what it actually is ... But I'm sure you would have to be born there? I don't know ,maybe army rules are different , if they're born while stationed abroad they can still be nominated by the Ipswich born Father? Arg! I told you it was a quandary! !

Ah.. Thank you Polly, I'm not sure, could someone be made a freeman of Ipswich if they weren't from Ipswich? I don't know how that works.... :-S
The age is certainly right.

I have a quandary , I may be looking for someone who doesn't exist, but I'll share my thoughts and see if anyone has any ideas....
Fact: Alexander Crickett Barber B.1808 Ipswich.Army man .
Whilst looking up other stuff I came across a list of Freeman of Ipswich.
Listed was an Alexander Barber (soldier) nominated by his father Alexander Crickett Barbar . in 1857.
Now I have their firstborn as Amelia 1833. But only from a 1851 census.
Now I'm thinking they had Son called Alex who also went into the army. But can I find him?! Does he exsist even. I have never found a marriage for them as she is from Dublin ( Helen Manning or Manners b1810) but I think a firstborn at 23 seems a little late? Clutching at straws I know but Crickett is such an unusual name..

Help!

Regards Yvonne. :-S
