Hi Janice george Gent rings a bell but could just be coincedence none of the others ring a bell , I have found out from my cousin that Grace died before 1964 , my cousin went to Australia then but was aware of Grace's death but doesn't recall any more , I have contacted Judith's grand son but he was born in 1961 but just on the off chance that he might have heard something. My Aunt Mona's first husband was a Tiffen not sure of his first name they had a daughter Frances also known as Audrey Mona divorced Tiffen and then went to live in Blackpool

Marriages Sep 1938
Bibby Gilbert Mortimer Burnley 8e 497
Mortimer Minnie Bibby Burnley 8e 497

2 sons born in 1939 and 1942 - look on freeBMD to get names. They may still be around.

There's a daughter from this marriage born 1952.

the daughter is on 3 trees on here. Are those people known to you? One is a Bibby.

just looked up Kent Road - never realised just where it was - my sister only lived about half a mile away for many years. Layton was a fairly popular retirement area

Janice

I'll edit those marriages then to get rid of middle name ones.

PS the sister we haven't looked at yet is Margaret I think. Mary married Jack Gent.
Margaret is a more common name so here are your choices:

Marriages Jun 1903
Procter Margaret Hargreaves Burnley 8e 555

Marriages Dec 1905
PROCTER Margaret Wilcock Burnley 8e 421

Marriages Sep 1915
Procter Margaret Kendall Burnley 8e 428

Marriages Mar 1954
Procter Margaret Scholes Burnley 10b 1393

Any of these names ring bells?

Janice

Janice Report 26 Aug 2012 13:04

Hi Susan,

Can we narrow the years down a bit? If your Mum is 91 , does that mean you were alive when Grace came over or was it before you were born? If you were alive, can you remember if you were at primary or secondary school so that we get a narrower time frame? If it was before you were born, that gives us a cut off date?

Did your mum go to the funeral? Would she remember how old her children were at the time?

Nothing on the shipping for Burton born 1885 +/- 5 so looks like Burton one isn't correct.

1963 is too late for the passenger lists on Ancestry. Are there others anywhere else?

Janice

Janice Report 26 Aug 2012 09:30

Morning Susan,

Had a few thoughts in bed - as you do! Have been looking for a Grace on the shipping lists but she could be just G so will check that one out this afternoon.

Judith and Bertha both had 3 husbands so have you checked them out for children too?!!

Judith died in 1963 and so did Mary Gent (if it's the right one) so wondered if Grace thought she ought to come over in 1963 to see the rest of the family before they all popped their clogs too.

If that was the case though, I'm sure 3 sisters dying in the same year would have made its way down the family folklore.

Hmmm!

Thanks Ladies if I wasn't confused before I am now , I shall let you know the outcome of my email to the US , I shall speak with Burnley Cemetery in the week or better still will call in , I shall report back on that one . We are also looking for Margaret's family Mary's , Bertha's we think Bertha had a grand daughter called Francesca , We know of judith's family up to her grand son Russell Bibby , also Emma's family up to her great grandchildren ( we all keep in touch ) My grand father was Thomas , We remember that Fred had no children that we are aware of he never married but who's to say and Mona the youngest of the family her grand daughter lives in New Zealand . I think I shall have to invest in a very large box of headache tabs . many thanks for your help so it's goodnight from me until tomorrow

I've tried cross-matching Grace anything born 1885 +/- 2 in England on the 1940 census with any Grace dying in Lancs between 1945 and 1965.

My head hurts :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

There was one but I couldn't find her on a passenger list

AAAAGGGGHHHHHH!

Think Susan needs to contact Burnley and investigate Grace Burton, if only to eliminate her from the enquiries!

How do you look up American marriages?
