A stroke of luck .. I have found a T J Brockbank as a POW.
Welsh Guards #4119910. Wonder if it was Thomas?

No luck with Florence's age on the birth certificate, but at the time of John's birth she was living at 1 Mildmay Park, Islington, London, and was working as a paint brush maker. She baptised John at the Church Of England Hostel before giving him up for adoption.
It's a pity we can't see the 1951 and 1941 census' :(

Oh that's fantastic work Jax. That at least confirms Albert was married twice and that Florence is another branch to add, with the added link to my Fish pond.
I didn't have a marriage or death date for Sarah either, so extra information too.

jax Report 30 Apr 2012 06:06

Just found the Electoral roll up until 1961 Albert and Florence were living in Bethnal Green with a Sarah...think it could be his mother

Name: Sarah Ellen Snooks
Birth Date: 11 Feb 1878
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1975
Age at Death: 97
Registration district: Poplar & Bethnal Green
Inferred County: Greater London
Volume: 14
Page: 1204

Marriages Dec 1895 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fish Sarah Ellen Bethnal G. 1c 383
Snooks John Bethnal Green 1c 383

Not that it is much help but fits in with Alberts mothers maiden name being Fish

Just had a thought, will ask John if his mother's age was on his birth certificate. That should confirm or eliminate a few names.
I have sent off a few messages and hope that someone will reply.
Thanks for your help again. It would seem that more questions have been raised rather than answered!

I gave you that marriage and birth for Florence at the start of this thread

All you can do it try and contact anyone with these children in their trees

Or purchase the marriage certs.... I cannot see what happened to Thomas Brockbank not even a war death is showing

There are 5 Brockbank/Collins births but cannot see what happened to some of them (that I have searched for) either...so maybe they were adopted also?

Wendy

Wendy Report 30 Apr 2012 05:04

I have also found 2 possible children from that marriage, Sheila and jean, 1934 and 1938, both in Essex.

Wendy

Wendy Report 30 Apr 2012 04:59

Might have found an earlier marriage for Florence, if of course it is the right one you found, born 1911.
Florence W Collins
Thomas J Brockbank
Romford Essex 1931

Can we get any further details to either eliminate or confirm?

Wendy

Yes I sent a message yesterday to one of them regarding Albert. I can't remember who my contact was who gave me the information originally. I will have another look now you have given me some more names to work with.

jax Report 30 Apr 2012 04:10

There are two other people who have Albert in their tree are you in contact with them? One is a Sue

Wendy

Wendy Report 30 Apr 2012 04:09

Can you try and find a death for Elsie Snooks (nee Butcher). I can't see anything on BMD, and wondering if there may be a divorce.
I'm fairly confident it is the same Albert F Snooks that married both ladies.

This could be the Florence who married in 1951

Name: Florence Winifred Snooks
Birth Date: 16 Jan 1911
Date of Registration: May 1988
Age at Death: 77
Registration district: Tower Hamlets
Inferred County: London
Volume: 14
Page: 914

Regarding this one Jax..I've broken down her timeline IF it is the correct Florence....

Age Event
0 Born Florence Winifred Collins 1911
20 Married Thomas Brockbank 1931
23 Sheila born 1934
27 Jean born 1938
37 John born and adopted out 1948
40 Married Albert Snooks 1951
40 Leslie born 1951
41 Kathleen born 1952
46 Susan born 1957
77 Died 1988

The thing that worries me is the age. Again 'IF' it is the correct Florence and she did have the children so late in life, then I think the possibility of an earlier marriage isn't out of the question.

But what is hopeful is that the girls are most likely still around and know about her past.

(Revised as information gathered)

It's interesting isn't it. I'm thinking she wasn't born in Middlesex. What children did she and Albert have?
I wonder how we can confirm it is the correct Florence that married Albert.
It may well be not the same Florence for John, but looks like the same Albert for me.
