If she is the mother of the two born in 46 and 47 she was'nt living in London at that time not far out but it came under Essex.

She probably just rented a room in these houses and I have found a death of an Albert E Harmer and he would have been 68 in 1948 so maybe not her man friend :-D

Wouldn't there be records for 1946/7, Or was there a hiatus after the war?

There were no ER's taken during the war years and if she was living in Essex they are not listed on Ancestry..only London.

Have no idea when they were taken but there is nothing for her after 1951 as she then married Albert Snooks

BTW, when in the year was the ER taken?

Any chance of finding her in the 1945/46/47 and 1952 ERs?
If we work backwards we may find when Thomas left, or if he was there at all.

The 1948 address is the one she used on John's birth certificate.
Albert would have to be a possible suspect.

Thats what we dont know...if of course it is the same person. I have seen births registered with mothers previous name rather than maiden name in the past, but have always put that down to the father registering the births and just used the name his wife married under?

There are no Florence W Brockbank's born in England or Wales and only two Florence Brockbank's one in 1916 with middle initial of "I" and one in 1926 both in the north of England

Sorry to divert, but had a message from a distant connection regarding Albert Snooks. He was elected to the Tower Hamlets council, and I just had a look and found a Albert JOHN Snooks, elected. This must be a son, but I don't have him on my tree. Another Albert Snooks elected 1980

There were 5 Brockbank/Collins births and as I said last night Some that I had looked at could not see any trace after the birth entry one in 1946 and another in 1947 in particular so what happened to those?...unless I missed them somewhere...maybe they were adopted too?

Having the two names means divorce normally but I cannot actully see a marraige for Baker/Osman in this country

Excuse me for wandering off, but I've been working on trying to eliminate or confirm that T J Brockman POW is 'our' Thomas. The reason being, this could explain why Florence had to adopt her son out.
Presuming Thomas was a POW - then he was still missing in 1945. Florence would have been left alone with 2 young girls, neither able to work yet, and not knowing if her husband was dead or coming home. Perhaps she allowed someone to "take care" of her and the girls.
A couple of scenarios...she became pregnant and the relationship had ended and she was financially unable to keep the child, or as it wasn't her husband, and forced to give up the child.

Maybe he remarried in 1945?

If he married in 1931 it is very unlikely he is still alive now...but could of died in the last 5 years.

Think you need to find out whether this Florence is the same person from perhaps any children you can find.

If he was still alive when she remarried they may not have divorced? maybe thats why there is some confusion over what was her maiden name when those other children were born plus the birth in 1948

I did also think that he may not be from England or Wales as I could'nt see a birth for him....so maybe he went back to Canada, USA or Australia??...just a thought

I have found out some more regarding TJ the POW.

"Stalag 344 was at Lamsdorf, Germany. Formerly known as Stalag V111, the Lamsdorf facility changed its name to Stalag 344 in 1943.
With the rank of Guardsman he would have been in a work camp attached to Stalag 344. Perhaps the number given was that of the work camp.

The whole camp was evacuated westwards in January 1945 and was later filled with POW from BAB 20 and others."

OK, here's a thought, the reason we can't find a death record for Thomas is because Thomas is still alive???
Impossible for me to look further into from here.
