what I have not found is WHERE he died! I can't see one on freebmd who died in Somerset or Derbyshire!

I have Williams marriage lines to Sarah They are both "full age" But he is a widower other than that I can't help.



Were Press Gangs around at that date ???? with Sarah's father being a Captain, and ending up a vice Admiral, If John thought William was no good well the mind goes into overdrive

I tried googling

that rpoduced quite a bit


then I tried william+oakes+hatch+court+somerset


and that produced this little tidbit in a description of Hatch Beauchamp Church

During the early 19th century Hatch Court had many different occupiers. From 1838 to 1855 William Oakes owned it He was a churchwarden and there is a memorial to him in the west porch. From 1856 to the end of the century various members of the Hardstaff family resided at Hatch Court. They were Methodists, and Henry Hardstaff built a small Methodist chapel on the edge of the park. However, the Hardstaff family as owners of Hatch Court retained the right to the use of five pews in the north aisle of the church, and this is Shawn on the Gilbert Scott plan of the church (1867).

so it looks as though William died between 1855 and 1856.

It doesn't help that we have no idea how old he was, nor where he was born!


do you have the marriage certificate???


does that give any more idea of his age, other than "of full age"??

and came up with this snippet, Sarah's second marriage, obviously ............ to see more, you have to pay! Note William Oakes addresses.

I know you don't, Sylvia it was not you , and Yes we did wonder about him. Sarah's father was a R N Captain we know and can read that but Daniel's Profession is , was we can't decipher it I do wish that they were made to print
