Barbara, did any of his children marry actually in London? We could have a look to see if they're on the London marriage records.

patchem Report 4 Apr 2011 20:40

So William was born as William Swift in 1857, even though his parents did not marry until 1881?
What was David's profession then?
Thanks.

Barbara

Barbara Report 4 Apr 2011 20:39

Marieceleste
I think I may have to purchase the marriage certs for his children, I do have William's marriage cert but not much info on there.

Barbara

Barbara Report 4 Apr 2011 20:27

Hi Patchem That is the correct birth for William. His mother was Eliza Nixon.

Here's the 1911, for reference:

SWIFT, Harriet Daughter Single F 38 1873 Needlework North Hyde

The return was completed by Caroline and says that Eliza had 8 children, all of whom survived. Under the "Not Known" for Eliza's bithplace someone (the census officer?) has written "possibly North London"

Hello Barbara, this is a mystery to get our teeth into!

I'm wondering if David changed his name at some point (has been known to happen) - can't see him before 1871.

Just wondering if the marriages of his children might give any clues.

patchem

patchem Report 4 Apr 2011 19:57

Possibly:
Births Dec 1857
Swift William Marylebone 1a 432

Is that the correct birth?
If so, who is the Mother?
Thanks

Barbara

Barbara Report 4 Apr 2011 19:48

In 1881 there is a Matilda Johnson 16 - co-incidence? And where is Harriet?
